Area Attractions, the perfect guest converting sales tool

June 22, 2010

Every hotel, big and small is fighting to capture a share of the online travel market. You develop snazzy content, post smart pictures and list the amenities and services you offer on your website to lure visitors to select your hotel over your competitors. What ultimately convinces them to make a reservation could be anything from AC rooms, swimming pools, in-house restaurants, gym facility and even your hotel’s garden.

In such a tough market, every advantage you have over your competitor counts. You need to consider what else will attract visitors to your hotel. The answer is an area page. Leisure and/or business guests will not spend all their time relaxing in their hotel rooms, swimming at the pool, exercising at the gym or even attending the conference being held at your state-of-the-art conference hall. They will get out of your hotel and explore what your city or town has to offer. Unless they are regular visitors to your city, they don’t know about the great parks, museums, clubs and pubs are located around the area. You probably already have a docket of information to guide your guests around your city or town. What you need to do is add this information online on your hotel website. This information can act as the final draw that convinces them that your hotel suits their needs perfectly. So, if you don't already have an area attraction page, get one.

Let’s illustrate.

Suppose, your hotel is located in Kerala, India and you receive a mixture of domestic and international guests, who come to experience the benefits of ayurvedic massage therapy at one of the famous Ayurvedic Health centers. Most of these guests are first time visitors to Kerala and while they have heard its beautiful, most are unaware of what Kerala offers in terms of tourist attractions. What you need to do is add just one more page to your hotel website that has a short description of Kerala and a list of its many attractions around your area.

Here is a Sample Area Attraction Page

‘God’s own Country’ is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on the west and the mountain ranges of the Western Ghats on the east. It is famous for its backwaters, beaches, hill stations and exotic wildlife. There are many places to see such as wildlife sanctuaries, classical art centers, festivals, historic cities and temples. You can also rejuvenate yourselves at the ayurveda spas and resorts.

Must See Attractions

Thiruvananthapuram,
originally Trivandrum is the capital of Kerala. It has many historic and cultural sites such as the palaces of the Maharajas of Travancore, the Sri Ananthapadmanabhaswamy temple, the Sri Chitra Art gallery, museums and more.

Kochi, once Cochin is known as the "Queen of the Arabian Sea". It is a busy port city, which is known for the Chinese fishing nets in its harbor, the Jewish synagogue, St Francis Church, the Dutch Palace at Matancherry, Fort Cochin and the Santa Cruz Basilica.

The backwaters of Kerala are calm palm-fringed waterways that connect villages along the coast. Take a cruise on a traditional houseboat ‘Kettuvallom’ and experience the beautiful of Kerala's backwaters.

Alappuzha is the venue for the annual snake boat races held during the Onam festival. Watch teams compete for the Nehru Gold Cup at Alappuzha.

To summarize, by adding an area attraction page to your hotel website, you can subtly give visitors to your hotel website one more push to convince them that your hotel is perfect not only in terms of services and facilities but also in terms of location.
